Apparently unpublished
Lot 1105
SELEUKID KINGS. Antiochos III ‘the Great’, 223-187 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 17.21 g, 11 h), a contemporary imitation, probably from Phrygia, circa 192/0-187. Diademed head of Antiochos III to right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ANTIOXOY Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in his right hand and resting his left on grounded bow. Cf. SC 996-998 (for similar imitations). Apparently unpublished. Light marks and with some flatness on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

The compound bow held by Apollo suggests a possible association with the Phrygian imitative series of SC 996-998, although the portrait style of this piece is new.
